WHO, WHAT, WHY
Hi, I'm Catherine, mum of 2 little ones, a big German Shepherd and lots of chickens! My family and animals recently moved to Tassie from the mainland and we absolutely love everything about it (yes- including the cold!)
I studied classical cello performance at the QLD Conservatorium of Music then worked as a cello teacher and orchestral conductor at multiple schools whilst running a fully booked private studio. I have a postgraduate degree in secondary education (classroom music) and have experience teaching music in Kindergarten.
I'd love to offer my skills to the Tassie community- to teach music literacy, important and overlooked musicianship skills such as inner hearing and pass on the love of music through fun and a sound curriculum.
Please note that the Sandfly classes are at a discounted rate for the homeschool community but the Kingston classes are at my professional rate as a specialist co-curricular class open to the public. If you need financial
assistance please contact me.
I leave you with my teaching philosophy:
Music is a place where we can become unified in spirit and in a world of so much noise and division we need to learn how to listen with our soul and feel harmony in our bodies. I want everyone to be able to access music, and that means they need to understand it. Understanding music is not through words but through experience. We all have a voice. We will start with that, we will work to match pitch, distinguishing pitches, we will internalise beat and be able synchronise rhythm. We will harmonise, analyse, dictate and improvise each lesson. We will find our voice. We will open our ears. We will deepen our hearts and strengthen our character. We will have fun.
