Hi, I'm Catherine, mum of 2 cherubs, a German Shepherd , bunnies and lots of chickens!

 

My passion for teaching music came when I realised that my own musical upbringing was so insufficient. I went to private schools and my parents paid for the best instrumental and music theory teachers and yet when I was at tertiary music school I was embarrassed by my inability to dictate what I heard, hear more than one musical line at a time and even keep a steady beat when playing.

When I came across the Kodaly method, my life changed as I couldn’t think of anything more valuable to preach/teach.  
 

The method is not only fun and engaging (as opposed to sterile sitting down lecture method which is totally inefficient and outdated), but it is so beautiful and thorough. Should you give it a chance and stick with it- it gives you the skills to truly understand music and in turn allows you to create music and be a proficient musician. I would want nothing more than to share the beauty and joy that comes from being able to play and understand music. 
 

Kodaly classes are active, sequential, song and game based with integrated art music works.
